Donate Milk to the Food Bank

E-mail Print
We all know that the food pantries have been stretched thin over the past year. What you may not know is that most of the pantries do not offer milk. Adults need 3 servings a day, everyday, for strong bones and teeth. Please bring lowfat powdered milk, evaporated milk or shelf stable milk to our chartiable giving baskets located to the left of the sanctuary doors.

Visit an Immigrant Jail/Detention Center

E-mail Print
Engage the Church in Immigration Justice. Visit a Jail/Detention Center. Check Detention Watch Network's interactive map to find out if immigrants are being detained near you, or call your local jail and ask if any immigrants are being detained there. Find out if it's possible to arrange a tour of the jail for interested members of your congregation. Share what you learn with your congregation and/or community.

Unplug Unused Appliances

Get Unplugged: Unplug any electrical appliance you're not using to save more than 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide and a good chunk of cash. "Energy vampires" that should be disconnected when not in use include phone chargers, computers, TVs, DVRs, and microwaves.

Contribute to the Solar Cooker Project

E-mail Print

Contribute to the Solar Cooker Project. The task of preparing a meal in Darfur brings a challenging set of problems and risks. Firewood for cooking is increasingly scarce in the areas of IDP camps. Women devote hundreds of hours to foraging for wood each week. The personal danger inherent in the chore is formidable: militia kill men and rape women. And as households consumes the limited energy source, the deforestation of Darfur advances. (Read a full report on this issue at this link.)

$30 purchases one solar cooker. Tax deductible donations for the Solar Cooker Project may be sent to the following address. Be sure to write "Solar Cooker Project" in the memo line.

Darfur Peace and Development Organization
P.O. Box 90
Washington DC 20044
*Credit Card donations can be made through the Solar Cookers International web site. If you would like your donation designated for this project, simply type "Solar Cookers Project" in the payment line.
