Come Feed Your Spirit and Help Heal the World

[This section of our web site is currently under revision to reflect the activity of our revitalized Social Justice Committee. Visit often to stay current on the exciting news!] "When 'spirituality' is only about the inner life and does not involve concern for others – especially the most vulnerable among us – then there is a need to ask if this is truly an authentic form of religious living…. Our [Unitarian Universalist] congregations may not have creeds, out of respect for individual conscience in matters of faith, but they have always had a strong sense of covenantal calling to serve the whole community." Those are words of former UUA President John Buehrens. We agree wholeheartedly. We're not sure how much hard statistical data exist to support this claim, but we know that there is a lot of empirical and anecdotal evidence of the fact that Unitarian Universalists - in Muncie, Indiana, the USA, or wherever – have been over-represented as leaders and foot soldiers in social justice and community service work. Newcomers have often told us that was the reason they were drawn to our congregation. And that, after all, is only logical and proper for a faith that describes itself as a church not of creeds but deeds and a congregation devoted, as the banner of this website proclaims, to helping to heal the world as well as feeding your spirit.
